VOLUNTEER

Through the Friendship Circle Volunteer Club, remarkable bonds are forged between the children with special needs and their new friends.

A volunteer’s commitment and willingness to give of their time reminds us that today’s men and women, both young and old, are caring, compassionate, and dedicated to making a difference in every child and adult they encounter.

Where are you from and how did you get involved?

I'm a Grade 11 student from Herzliah High School. I heard about Friendship Circle from many of my good friends, and decided to give it a try. My first ever program was Summer Camp. I loved every minute of it. I decided that this was something I wanted to do every week, so I joined Sunday circle!

What is your favourite moment at Friendship Circle?

My favorite moment at Friendship Circle was about a week ago. My buddy really enjoys playing with stickers and the cartoon Pokemon characters. When I first started hanging out with him, he had difficulty adjusting to me and often we didn't understand one another. So as a surprise, I bought him some Pokemon stickers. When he showed up at Sunday Circle for the day, and I showed him the stickers, he jumped into my arms and gave me the biggest hug I've ever seen him give anyone. I was touched because I really felt like he started to appreciate our friendship.

How did Friendship Circle have a positive impact on your life?

Friendship Circle has brought a lot of joy to my life. It started being something that I really look forward to. When I'm sitting in school, I start thinking about all of the fun activities I want to do with my buddy. I made many new friends that are also volunteers, and every week I leave feeling like I accomplished something meaningful.

How will you implement & spread the Friendship Circle Motto in your daily life?

One of the biggest messages Friendship Circle conveys is inclusion. At school, I do my best to include all of my friends in everything I do. I also like baking cookies and bringing them to school to give out, because doing something to make someone's day better is the best thing you can do! As well, I always try to encourage my friends to volunteer at Friendship Circle, so that they can get the same experiences I do!
